An outstanding introduction to Kabbalah
For me this book was a revelation. I have never seen anything of such depth, profundity and meaning. It does take study but the translators have provided accounts of and definition of terms so that anyone can open this book and study from it. This is real, authentic Kabbalah and is definitely not the translator's interpretation of Rabbi Ashlag's. They have kept themselves and their own views out of it and provided a readable but accurate (I have checked the Hebrew!) rendition of Rabbi Ashlag's original masterpieces. Worth more than a read - I recommend that you study this book again and again for all the treasures that are to be found in it.

A definitive work of Kabbalah for our times
Rabbi Ashlag is now generally recognized as THE major Kabbalist of the Twentieth Century. His work has been badly distorted and plagiarized in English translation but here at last is the essence of his teachings, portrayed in an accurate and authentic form. The translators have done a superb job of rendering Rabbi Ashlag in readable English while at the same time being true to the original text. They have added extra chapters explaining the basic concepts of Kabbalah so that the reader can fully understand Rabbi Ashlag's teachings even if they have no previous background in Kabbalah. The two Introductions to Kabbalah that are at the center of this book are miniature masterpieces, explaining the nature, meaning and purpose of human existence. I heartlily recommend this book to anyone who wants a proper and authentic understanding of Kabbalah. It is a modern classic that one can come back to again and again, constantly finding inspiration and insight.

At last an authentic and readable account of Kabbalah!
In the Shadow of the Ladder is an authentic translation of Rabbi Ashlag's great Introductions to Kabbalah. I found this book remarkable in as much as it is a truly accurate translation of the Hebrew text and also a deeply inspiring meditation on the nature and meaning of our life.It is clear that Rabbi Ashlag was someone who knew the nature of reality at first hand. The translators have included helpful explanatory chapters to enable anyone to understand and appreciate Rabbi Ashlag's works. Rabbi Ashlag was a Master Kabbalist of the 20th century and is increasingly being recognized as the Modern Master, who laid out the definitive understanding of Kabbalah for our times. I unreservedly recommend this book.
