Well done, but limited scope
|
The first chapter of this book concentrated on techniques to add gore and 'creepy' or magical effects to characters. This is probably the most generally useful section of the book. Chapter 2 deals with the effects for drawing ghosts, which is quite well presented. Chapter 3 covers different monsters. Unfortunately this is one of the weaker parts of the book, toughing on many different creatures, but not looking at many of them in any real detail. Probably intended more as a source of ideas than anything else. Chapter 4 is Espers and Monster Hunters and gives examples of costume along with some tips for esper special effects. Short but useful. Finally, chapter 5 provides some example fantasy/horror pictures so you can see how the pro's do it.All in all, this book is well done, but spreads itself far too thinly trying to cover horror, demons, fantasy monsters, ghost-hunters and espers all in one book.

Quite a good book all in all.If you thought that you was drawing things similar to the front cover as i thought well ya wrong, no cat women at all, nada, zero, zilch nothing. This book mainly comprises of effects that one would use when drawing creepy "theres a ghost behind you" lines and "ahhhhhh im a evil dude screaming" dashes, you know things that inhance the atmosphere.Theres also sections on zombies, spirits, demons(horns for them) and animals and mythical beasts with more heads than they need.Oh yes how can i forget the part when they compair a dragons mouth with a stapler. Overall i wouldnt use this book much but, theres a few cool pictures with people missing parts of their faces and limbs which i gave it another star for.But i hardly use it. I give it 3 and half stars.

An Excellent Introduction to Manga
|
This is the best book I have read on techniques for the occult in manga. It would be good for those who are already confident drawers and want afew pointers rather than for newbies. This is good as the book givestips on how different effects change the picture, it also tells you how tomake the different tools helpful to drawing.

Amazing book, with lots of gore.

This book has a lot of amazing pictures. Learn how to draw Demons, Goblins, Ghosts, Dragons and other fanatsy creatures, also spiders, mythological beings such as Medusa, Chimeras, Nue, Minotaur.. The list goes on. Every page has a lot of detailed pictures. The drawings are done in a realistic fashion. So if you want to draw them manga style, I suggest you get some of the other books first, if you're quite not sure how to draw them in manga style. But it does say "The more real the picture is, the more scary it is" and I couldn't agree more. It has a section on how to do blood effects, which is quite useful. There are a lot of graphical pictures in here so if that's not your kinda thing, I don't think you should buy this book. There is a lot of help if you use tones, it shows you which ones to use and where to use them. It also shows you which tones to use on backgrounds with a mountain, for drawing mountain spirits. Depending on which season it is. I give this book 5 stars because it's just what it says on the cover. Lots and lots of horror :)
