Timeless and genius

From the crackle and hiss of the first moment on the first disc through to the credits of the DVD this collection is, perhaps redefines, quality. Not ever a Chris Rea fan in the past - I have been an avid follower of all the Jazzeeblue material, and it is some of the finest music I've ever heard. It is so clearly a work of love and dedication which inspires, entertains, and even teaches - played by people clearly doing what they should be doing. Sometimes I get off on simply the production quality; other times I wonder how on earth they blended guitar and piano like that. Just a truly marvellous musical experience. At this price I will buy a second set so I can play it in different rooms. If anyone asks me what does 'genius' mean, I will refer them to this collection. Blue Guitars is jazz-blues that feeds off a new interpretation of a rich heritage and really does find a unique musical idiom. There should be a book about this recording - I feel I've learned so much about blues, jazz, instruments and even microphones.

Wow!!

What can I say, 137 tracks plus a DVD is an immense piece of work, and the amazing thing is that every track is excellent - some of them are wonderful such as 'You Got Soul' and 'Nobody But You', 'There's No One Looking' I could go on and on. The trouble with it is that it takes months to get familiar with the album, so even remembering your favourite tracks is difficult. He attempts to have a CD for different styles of blues music. The result is less raw than Stoney Road, and may disappoint blues fans; but for Chris Rea fans it's like all of our Christmas's coming at once. On top of all this, the packaging is beautiful, Chris Rea's wonderful paintings illustrate the book which contains the CDs in the front and back covers.

Still an awesome talent
|
One of lifes great mysteries will always be why Chris Rea never smashed the American market, especially the South of the country. But needless to say, their loss is our gain. Without too much hype, Chris Rea is undoubtably one of the top ten finest guitar players ever to walk the face of this planet.
To really see the best in Chris Rea you need to see him live, to see him jot about the stage, to see him immerse himself in his music.
As a musician and song writer he is a massive talent, very underated by those who have not taken the time to injest just how fluid he is, people will mention how Jimmy Hendrix made his guitar look like it was a part of his body by the way in which he played it, if you ever get the chance to see Chris Rea play, then you will see from the outset that man and guitar form the ultimate bond.
This CD set is a prized posession, each and every disc is total quality, the Blues has come to town in a way I dont think I could hear anyone else play them, Chris Rea's voice is both subtle and explosive, he plays with a passion and that comes out in all manner of ways. If you like the Blues, if you like an awesome guitar player then this album set is for you, if you like Chris rea, then this just has to be in your collection. An awesome product from a first class world stage performer.
