Epic
|
India's Ramayana and Mahabharata epics are world famous, and even serve as the national epics of several different Asian countries such as Thailand. India itself is rich in mythology, history and art - the perfect breeding ground for an entertainment industry as epic as that of Japan....
...yet until Virgin Comics, nobody had really made a serious professional attempt to bring good quality entertainment of Indian origin to the world.
While some of Virgin's other titles had some starting-up problems, Ramayan 3392 AD is as perfect as one could expect from a brand-new company. Where there have been numerous scene-for-scene adaptations of the Ramayana, each lacking any original take on the epic, this one introduces the sort of variation on the classic tale that can only be described as original and enthralling. For example, in this adaptation, demonic legions were not created by supernatural means, but were the result of a technological singularity.
Thats not to say the first volume of this epic series is flawless, but it is certainly a must-buy if you want to tap into the last untapped resevoir of Asian culture, are looking for something different, or just enjoy a good heroic epic.

Spun My Head Round
|
I bought this title just because it looked beautiful. Yes I'm that shallow, I bought it orignally because of the pretty pictures.
The art itself is jaw droppingly beautiful ans unique. The term, Like Nothing I've Seen Before it used alot but in this case it's true.
The only other time i've been bowled over by art was Kingdom Come who's artist (the godlike Alex Ross) does the cover.
The story is also staggering too, and worthy of it;s Lord Of The Rings comparison.
This is perfect for anyone wanting to read something a little different than what DC and Marvel churn out. An essential buy
