Looks like Anne Rice has some competition

This is just a great book. I read it before i read the rest of the series and it was still great. Elrod carefully reintroduces the established characters for the new comers but doesnt patronise or annoy the dedicated fans. The only problem i would have with this book is the fact that its screaming out for a sequel at the end. i read the rest of the series and nearly cried when i found the series had been cancelled. she may take the series up agin but not for a few years yet she thinks. but anyhoo, for a brief synopsis which this site seems to lack, its about a guy who's lover made him into a vampire and now hes trying to find her. he has both a strong supporting group behind him of friends and family and an equally strong and quite original group of enemies. but the story's not so much about his vampirism as about the plot, which makes it a good book in its own right, hence me liking it without knowing any of the history. Enjoy
