Very dark indeed!
|
Being from Dorset myself I found this book a very interesting and enjoyable read, allthough I feel even non-dorsetshire readers would be entertained. Whether you are a bookworm of the kind that reads from cover to cover or you just like dipping your toes in every now and again for a quick tale, this will cover all. 'Murderer's Lane' and the 'Gibbet Pit' were very dark and disturbing, especially seeing as most of the tales are actually based on historical events. I found the book informative as well as engagingly written and plan to visit some the locations mentioned in these tales. The illustrations and photographs are excellent and really fire ones imagination. Really, I can't wait to read Dark Dorset, Volume 2. Well done.

The DARK side of folklore
|
This book deserves to be a modern folklore classic. Not only have the authors greatly expanded upon and rewritten the original edition with new tales and additional information on the older ones but they have peppered the book with a vast array of high quality and atmospheric original photographs and illustrations of the locations. All of which helps visualise the many tales of terror to such a degree it is almost as if they leap off the page.
Witchcraft, murders, ghostly black dogs it's all in here and more. You'll never look at the county of Dorset in the same light after you read this...
