Not just a pretty face

This is not only a beautifully presented book, but also the portrait of an era and of an inspiring character. I would recommend this book partiularly to all those who are interested in the history of the stage.

She Did It Her Way!

This is a fascinating read. Ellen Terry had three husbands, two illegitimate children and several (known) lovers. It represents a lifestyle that would seem unthinkable for any successful woman in late Victorian England, yet Terry carried it all out without shame. Whilst others (including countless literary heroines) allowed themselves to be crushed under society's constraints, Terry seemed to revel, almost childlike, in the possibilities life allowed her.
This is a beautifully written, informative and sensitive account of of a woman who will attract far more attention in years to come. Highly recommended.
