Not the best but OK for DOHNS
|
In a nutshell if you are studying for the DOHNS you should probably buy this book for its practice questions.
It is the only book I found which provides practice MCQ's for the written paper.
Otherwise this is a rather poor book. Illustrations are very simplistic as is the content. Although broad, there is little detail or facts and figures.
Most galling of all are the numerous critical inaccuracies! These really are unforgivable in a revision book where accurate facts are essential.
Examples (there are more) :
If congenitally death children do not experience sound by 8 months then the ability to listen is lost! (It is actually 8 years NOT months!!!) Could be a very costly typo in the exam.
The eustachian tube connects to the OROPHARYNX. Again I would say that the Nasopharynx was more accurate.
This might seem like nit picking but if you reproduced these "FACTS" in an exam you'd be in trouble.
If you do buy this book make sure you cross reference your revision to a more accurate text such as "key topics"

basic, but useful

The only book you need to sit and pass the DOHNS, of course, in addition to your ex experience in ENT surgery, which it's of paramount importance in this regard. I would not blame the esteemed authors for writing a little bit basic ENT book, because, honestly speaking, this is the only book, as I thought, you need to read and study thouroughly to pass the DOHNS(RCSEng.). Add to this, that revisions chapters were written and designed carefully. I hope my review will be helpful for you. Thank you

The only book written specially for the DO-HNS
|
|
There are some good and bad points about this book. The bad points are while the presentation is quite readable, there is a distinct lack of facts and proper explanations in the revision notes section. For me, you can't really remember something unless you understand it and for this you really need the Key Topics of Otolaryngology to suppliment it. The great part about this book is the questions bit - no other book in the market has ENT MCQs and EMQs as well as sample OSCEs for the DO-HNS. To be fair, the explanations for the answers were brilliant. So if you are going for the DO-HNS, this is a must have!

Excellent ENT revision book
|
|
This book is the only one I have found that brings together the important parts of ENT knowledge into one volume without superfluous information. I found it compact and easy-to-read, and it cut through a lot of the waffle that is present in other books. It also is the only one to include concentrated OSCE, MCQ and EMQ questions - one of the best textbook purchases I have made.
