This is a work of true comic genius - the CD of the Reduced Shakespeare Company's Millennium Musical If you haven't first seen the musical, the selection of subjects for the songs may seem a little bizarre, but trust me - it will take nothing away from the humour. The songs are suprising varied in style and content - including such 'classics' as "History ain't what it used to be"(Disco), "Gay" (set to a famous piece of ballet music, who's name escapes me), "A new way of seeing" (about the michaelangelo's painting of the cistine (sp?) chapel - the staging of this was stunningly innovative), "Do let's be frank (About the Muslims)" (which i strongly suspect is probably now unperformable - given the worlds political situation - but it is in actual fact a brilliant song, and perhaps if more people listened to it the world might be a better place!) and "Deja vous" providing a neat little joke to end the show on. All the songs are mildly insulting to everyone - but in equal proportion! All will be forgiven when you hear the whole thing. Seeing these songs performed onstage was a real treat, the dances added even another aspect to them - but the CD comes a close second and stands well on it's own. This is possibly the only CD in my whole collection that i know all the words to - i'm terrible at learning lyrics of even my favourite songs - this just goes to demonstrate both how amazing it is and how many times i've listened to it, and also how memorable this comical songs are! If you already know and love (it would be impossible not to -imo) anything by the R(educed)SC then this is definately for you. If you haven't yet been enlighted - this is the perfect introduction!
