I was fortunate enough to get a couple of fiddle lessons from Tom Anderson when I was about 15. Unfortunately I didn't realise quite who I was dealing with. I remember a patient, avuncular elderly man that put up with my lack of practice and inability to listen. Now when I play through the tunes in this collection I can feel his presence. Unlike the usual same old collection of tired folk tunes some of these, particularly the slow airs, have real character and that something special that means you find yourself humming them over your cereal in the morning.
