..now one of my favourite books. The first poem I read was The Morning After Optimism, and I was in love. With a voice and style similar to that my favourite poet of all times, and with his own flair of originality, i was impressed. The poems are gripping, honest, sometimes humourous, sometimes satirical and always very stylish. But I Loved You is an overwhelmingly beautiful poem - "i didnt change history...in my spare time, but i loved you until you passed away and now i am nothing again, marking time with other nothings who live and die unhistorical" - it paints a romantic, melancholy view of life after love.. it's refreshingly honest and deeply sensitive. "Pagans" is an example of the other side of Malone - The dismissive, rebellious, satirical part - equally compelling and enjoyable. "Circles" is a potent expression of memory, and the cycle. Neophyte is the sort of wise, hindsightful poem that fills someone of my age with awe and humility, and about a million questions. After reading Pedagogue, I would love to meet Malone. Journeyman is a story of love, regret and narcissism, telling a whole story in 26 lines. His style is often wise, often introspective, always observant and questioning, and ALWAYS compelling. He writes of his life, and others', like a fly on the wall, casually observing and occassionally letting down barriers to reveal a refreshingly insightful and introspective soul. I couldn't put pedagogue down; buy this book.
