Early werewolf work and reads like it

I read the 2 novels in this sequence after starting the Riley series set in Melbourne. This reads like very early Keri Arthur as yet unsure of herself and strangely set in the USA which doesn't work either. On the werewolf reservation of Ripple Creek, a killer is on the loose and Neva Grant's twin sister is fighting for her life. Neva vows to hunt down the killer by seducing a member of the suspected Sinclair clan, Duncan. This, as you may guess, goes very pear-shaped. I found the alpha male and cringing little wolf aspects very hard to deal with and completely unappealing. Riley is far more kick-ass - a real heroine unlike girly Neva. The moon-dance is there as with the Riley books but it is far better developed in those ones. The real problem is reading the better series first - I have to say that I wouldn't recommend investing in the Ripple Creek books unless you find them going cheaply - there is just no comparison with KA's later work.
