Building Countryside Paths and Tracks

Brilliant practical guide, excellently illustrated and easy to understand. The projects are very well described and the background information actually helped me secure a part-time, countryside job. Superb!!

Good, but could be better

A nice hardback book with great pictures and fairly simple designs. Sadly it misses out on the different access legislation in Scotland concentrating completely on England and assuming this applies to the whole of the UK. Similarly in the section on footbridges reference is made to the defunt River Purification Boards in Scotland.
Although mention is made of the Disability Discrimination Act the book doesn't really cater for access for all or people with mobility problems. In doing so it misses out the British Standard for Gaps, Gates and Stiles that would have helped in this respect.
Summary? A good book to add to the collection of path building manuals, but not a definitive work.
