This book was a recommended text for the introductory-level City & Guilds 7307 part 1 teaching course which my wife completed last year. For that course it is a good book, as it gives a fairly broad but shallow introduction to current teaching practice. I don't think it will stand alone for any of the more in-depth teacher-training courses (7307 part 2 and 3, 7407, Cert.Ed./PGCE etc.), though. It's not a particularly good source of quotes and references for written work but I found it excellent for lists and overviews to help me make sure I covered the right ground in my assignments. Worth getting as a backup, but you will still need a "main" book such as Reece and Walker.
