Very good for everyday language
I found this book quite useful for occasional everyday language reference, especially as there isn't exactly an abundance of dictionaries of Roman Urdu/Hindi. It is for beginners and for getting by it should be enough.
Have to say though - the colloquialism/slang/swearwords in Urdu are much ruder than their English translations suggest!

A big failing...
Previous reviewers have evidently got on with this book but in my view (and I speak as someone who already knows the basics of Hindi gramar) it has a crucial failing - it doesn't list whether nouns are masculine or feminine. This information is needed in order to correctly add adjectives to nouns, but it also affects a number of grammatical constructions, including the past tense for transitive verbs. You are therefore left to guess at whether there should be a masculine or feminine ending in these instances, unless you buy another dictionary to tell you! (The Lonely Planet Phrasebook, whilst being not as comprehensive in some ways, does include this gender info in its dictionary section.)
