Editorial Reviews:
In the sixth volume Faith of the Fallen of Terry Goodkind's "Sword of Truth" series, things have, as usual, gone from bad to worse. Richard Rahl, understanding that the sanctimonious Imperial Order of Jagang is too vast for him to defeat by military might, has retreated into the wilderness to think things through, and to allow his beloved Kahlan to heal from nearly fatal injuries, and left his supporters to fight for their own freedom. Part of the point of Goodkind's series has been that people need to work out their own salvation ; Jagang, with his creed of universal mutual support and habit of committing atrocity to bring it closer, is just as sincere a messiah, after all, as Richard. And then Richard is kidnapped by Nicci, a Sister of Darkness, who has Kahlan magically hostage and is determined to persuade him that Jagang is right by taking him to the heart of the Empire and showing him how it works. Goodkind's tic of aphorism, and some laboured Libertarian satire on the welfare state, do not prevent this being an effective continuation of this popular series. Battles, revolts and the creation of art are things Goodkind does well--and there are plenty of them here. --Roz Kaveney

Customer Reviews:
Pretty poor!
I keep trying to read Terry Goodkind's books in the hope that they may approach the skill of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. But they don't. And I have found this Goodkind book to be the worse yet. The ending (which I won't give away) is so supremely silly, that I re-read it to make sure that I hadn't missed any fundamental point that would justify the complete change in world view expressed (in tedious oratory) by some of the characters. Not recommended.
Faith of the Fallen
This is the best book of the series by far. It has the strongest story, and the characters are well thought out and aren't the perfect heroes that you would expect with a fantasy book. It goes along at a fairly fast pace and there is always something to keep you interested and glued to the book.
So, all in all, this is a good book and well worth buying and reading.
Thanks but no thanks
Like almost everyone I loved the series to begin with, but this... Americas hatred of communism is well documented already without fantasy degenerating into it. Poor show, Terry.
Can you say Objectivism?
I have read all the series so far and have very much enjoyed them, however not so long ago I read Atlas Shrugged and both books use exactly the same compelling yet ultimately unrealistic arguments to Promote capitalism (not that I am particularly against capitalism).
I would recommend anyone who enjoyed the social commentary in this book read 'Atlas shrugged' (or even if you didn't and just enjoy reading very long books which are basically novelised philosophy)

But other than the Overt Ayn Rand influence the book carries through the plot it's quite enjoyable and carries the story on very well.

That Richard! .... He's a lad isn't he!!! :-)
Biased perhaps, but still excellent.
Though I've loved the Sword of Truth series from the moment I opened the cover of Wizard's first rule, I found the previous two books (Temple of the Winds and Soul of the Fire) a bit lacking.

Faith of the Fallen was right back on form. I couldn't put it down; I literally read it through the night. However, like the rest of the series it suffers from being a little... preachy. Personally, it doesn't bother me, I agreed with Goodkinds philosophy before I opened the first book, and he really is just preaching to the choir so I get how it could irritate someone who was opposed to the view point.

Basically; as far as fantasy goes the book is top par, but if you're picky about your political beliefs then it may ruin the series for you, this book in particular.
