Excellent, with issues that affect all in today's society.

This key book by stienbeck shows our society in many different shades. it is a lesson of love, loneliness, isolation, rascism and togetherness. the fact that the book was made into a film also shows it's popularity. easy to pick up, hard to put down and extremely good!

This is a great book which explores many important issues.

When I first read this book with my class I found the long descriptive paragraphs which introduce each chaptor boring, but as it progressed I became more and more engrossed in the charctors and the various situations they were in. It is basically about a very special friendship between two men who share a bond which exists despite all the hurdles they face. George makes the ultimate sacrafice for his friend which comes as a real shock to us as readers. I think this story opens our eyes to reality. It is historically correct, humourous and above all a compelling read. I would reccommend it to anyone. (It also helps when you have a good teacher who is able to allow you see past all the description into the important issues raised)

Why do you hate 'Of Mice and Men' so much?
|
|
I'm reading 'Of Mice and Men' as part of my GCSE course this year and, as school reading goes, its really good. I've had to struggle though some really boring stuff like 'War of the Worlds' and when my teacher said we had to read another book i was really annoyed. But, when we started to read it, I realised just how good it actually was!! It explores the theme of loneliness between two ranch hands in mid - west America. George takes care of Lennie, who is a retard, and they go through life and work, solving a lot of problems. It tells of the two mens bond with each other, as George must commit a crime of passion and kill Lennie to save him from the horrible death that Curly was offering. When doing this, George must also face his fears of becomming lonely himself - becomming another typical, anonimous ranch hand whose name no one knows. This book is not violent and if you think it is then you must have taken it in completely the wrong context or just have no comprehension skills at all. I really enjoyed reading 'Of Mice and Men' and couldn't put it down once I started to read it. Fair enough, it contains some scenes that shock but they help to build up the plot of the book and show how much the two men will give up in order for the other to be happy.

Of Mice and Men is a classic

But don't let that put you off. The book is not, as a previous reviewer asserts, 'vulgar and violent' but a touching study of the relationship between two men struggling to survive and keep their dreams alive against the odds. I am teaching this book to my GCSE class, so if they start shooting dogs, women, each other etc, etc, I know where I'm going wrong......

A book that should not be read by children
|
|
Of mice and men by John Steinbec is about two men one who is stupid and the other who is even more stupid. They go to work for a man and want to make enough money for their own place. When stupider kills a girl stupid must shoot him. This book is vulgur and violent and I did not enjoy it very much at all.
