Customer Reviews:
Exceptionally well written prose.
Considering the author hadn't been to the US prior to writing this, this is amazing. Ignore the "dangerous" theme of the book, it's about obsession obsession OBSESSION. This book is so well written it makes me ill! Every sentence has meaning and context, sometime you have to re-read it again to appreciate. This isn't a dirty book or "sick", Lolita tells you about a man who has lost sense with reality finding his entire being centred around a 12 year old girl who is not what she seems.
Total Brilliance
This book is of true genius. Only when you understand it, do you realise that it is not written in poor taste. Through the eyes of a middle aged man you see emotion that can only be described as intense irrelevant of what you believe that emotion may be. A foul act is taken but not forced from a girl who more than understands the consequences of her actions. It is only debateable whether the context you understand from the writing is the situation you believe to be happening.
Questionnable
The literary talent of Vladimir Nabakov is shown throughout this book. Although the subject of the book is questionable Vladimir Nabakov manages to get away with it through his clever mix of humour and drama. This book provides a very detailed insight into the psychological workings of a man who is slowly but clearly going insane. Prehaps this book would also serve use as a psychology text book into bereavement, obsession and sanity.
Chillingly balanced insight into behaviour
I found this book to be both offensive and distasteful at the same time. Excellent writing is displayed throughout. Vladimir Nabakov has produced an excellent insight into a man's life and his obsessions. The contemporary theme ensures that the reader's full attention is always present, causing us to thoroughly examine the work of Mr Nabakov and increase our appreciation of it.
