Assumes too much prior knowledge

THis book is not really a standalone product and as stated in the previous review is meant to be part of a wider learning curriculum. I found it a little difficult to grasp some of what it was trying to get at and as such could not really recommend it to the beginer.

Theory Book grade 1
I have worked through the Associated Baord theory books myself, and I am helping my younger brother work through this grade 1 theory book. The book provides imformation about the basic of music theory, but mainly it is an excercise book with various excercises on key theoretical principles of music and provides examples and explaination on how to complete the excercises. The excercises get progressivly harder to gradualy improve the 'student'. However the answers, as such to the excercises are not provided and it would advisable to be supervised or be 'marked' by a parent/teacher. It is intended to be a preparitory excercise book for the boards grade 1 theory exam. To continue with musical studies after you have finished this book you could move onto music in practice grade 2. I think this book is ideal for anyone who is begining to study music, learning and instrument or jt has an interest in music and wants to take their understanding further but don't have any prior knowlegde. For the price the book offers good value for money with a easy format suitable for both young and old.
