Revelation 1-3 simply explained.
|
A very good book, focusing on the seven churches of Asia minor described in Revelation chapters 2 and 3. Stott writes in his usual clear, lucid manner. We are given an introductory chapter on Revelation 1, which describes the Apostle John's vision of Christ. As we then go on to look at the different churches, each situation is put in the appropriate context with lots of helpful background information regarding the different places and the circumstances they faced. Stott clearly explains the strong points that some of the different churches were commended for, as well as the different problems that they were faced with, such as persecution, idol worship, and - in the case of the Laodiceans - lukewarmness. Each study is concluded by a reference to Christ's command to each of the churches, showing the way to receive His blessing. Stott shows us not only what Christ thinks of the church, but also, how the lessons and commands given to the churches at the end of the first century are relevant for the church today. A book that needs to be read and taken to heart. "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches."

Ideal for personal study or as a gift for a friend

The letters to the seven churches in Revelation are as relevant to today's church as ever. This excellent publication will not disappoint those who are familiar with John Stott's clarity. Lavishly illustrated with an abundance of colour photographs and a good sized print this book would make an ideal introduction to personal Bible study and reading for someone who is not used to doing their own Bible study. If you are looking for a book to give to a Christian friend or to treat yourself you could do a lot worse than this one.
