Biggles - For Boy's of Eight to Eighty
|
Having more time on my hands in semi-retirement I have been revisiting some of the keen enthusiasms of my youth. I was interested in establishing why one's interest had been so captivated in those tender years.
I am pleased to say I hugely enjoyed this compendium of four stories. The author is a convincing and exhilarating storyteller. The heroes are of course Biggles, Algy and Ginger who are often perilously close to disaster. Although one suspects that the heroes will always pull through, such is the assurance of the writing that one retains a real sense of impending doom until the plot is successfully resolved.
For someone of my generation the honesty and integrity of the heroes and their lack of cynicism are admirable qualities. I would love to think that the current generation would treasure the same principles and re-live the Biggles adventure stories.
