Customer Reviews:
Easy Reading
I loved Scar Tissue, Long Hard Road Out Of Hell and now this one as well. They are all writeen as if you were talking to them yourself. Very easy, straight forward and down to earth. I loved Six when I was a teenager, but as a young teen girl, it was all about how hot he was :) I never really thought about his life. It's amazing what people like him and Anthony Keidas live through. I would recommend this book! You will fly through it and enjoy it as well.
Great Book, But not quite Dave Navarro's
Fair play, nikki sixx's heroin diaries is a great book, but the fact is Dave Navarro (guitarist of Janes Addiction) wrote a very similar (and superior) book covering his heroin addiction in 1998 with Neil Strauss.

This book is a great read, especially if your a fan of motley crue, but personally i'd advise anybody who just wishes to read this style of confession/drug related diary book then Dave Navarro's Don't Try This At Home is much better written and much more interesting.
The Herion Diaries - Addictive....
I initially read 'The Dirt' which is more general and covers Motley Crue's antics throughout there success whereas the 'Herion Diaries' is a look at Nikki Sixx's life for 1 year. It is definetly not a repetition of 'The Dirt' it is a more detailed look into Nikki's Herion addiction during the time. There is a soundtrack that accompanies the book which is also very good and has some amazing songs that relate to stories and events in Nikki's life.

Overall this is an amazing book, however I recommend that reading 'The Dirt' first as it will cover Motley in alot more detail and shows there true Rock n' Roll lifestyle.
Where do i begin???Welcome to a true nightmare
I have read a few biographies, but none matches this one!!!Ok,we all know Motley were/are the most insane rock band on this planet...but i did not expect this. It's amazing,sad,horrendous..sometimes funny too...and so honest! It blew me away.Nikki Sixx should not be alive(but i'm glad he is).Talk about"dancing with death"!!!Behind his hard facade is a very sensitive, intelligent, artistic guy(so many qualities). He felt so let down, unloved and neglected from an early age...and rebelled 100%.Music,ability to write songs, determination,is what kept him alive(a lot of luck too)!!It's ironic that what was actually killing him(Being in a famous band, and all that comes with...actually kept him going.Had he no ambitions, nothing to get up for,he most certainly would not be here today..The book itself, the layout are quite something.A must read!!!
Entertainingly depressing!
I'm a fan of Motley Crue, autobiographies and the seedier side of life (from a safe distance), so buying this was a no-brainer. What an astonishing book. Like 'The Dirt', Sixx, with Ian Gittens help this time, has enrolled others to provide their perspective of what he was going through and putting them through (particularly so in Mick Mars case). This is the first book I've ever finished reading and immediately started again.

The book pulls no punches when it comes to describing life in Motley world, and there is a huge dichotomy between the obvious hedonistic/hooligan pleasures indulged in when you're a spoilt rock star and what happens when you close the closet door.

If you let it, this book could be very depressing. Despite seemingly having it all (for example, the cheque he found in his mailbox when he came home during a break in touring) Sixx had deep and painful psychological scarring, something the drugs, instead of numbing, appear to have aggravated. Even knowing the outcome didn't prevent me from feeling real concern that he wasn't going to make it.

An earlier review suggested that these diaries might have been a collection of remembered events put into diary form for this book, rather than actual entries. Given the state of Sixx's mind, the drugs and the fame/infamy at that time, I doubt that Nikki would have been able to remember much of this year without the prompts a diary gives. What were you doing on 23rd December 1987?

One intriguing point, there don't appear to be any live photo's from '87 and only a couple offstage. It would have been interesting to see how much Nikki's appearance changed with the drug abuse, something he continually refers to.

Entertainingly depressing...but in a good way.
