Customer Reviews:
Excellent reading to gain an understanding of the emotional side of ivf
This book - and I commend the author for her bravery in writing it- tells of the heartbreak and grief that occurs when people can't have children. A great book to give to family and friends who find it hard to understand why you can't always be "the life and soul of the party". A very good read for couples who are contemplating ivf treatment.
No longer alone
A must read for anyone that is in denial or struggling to come to terms with the sorrow, grief and sense of failure that is associated with longing for a child and still waiting. At last I have acknowledged my own grief and realised that I am not being neurotic or hysterical feeling as I do, because Martina Devlin was able to vocalise emotions that I had struggled to express myself. I bought another book and sent it to a friend in a similar situation and she responded by saying that she hoped her husband would read the book to help him understand how she was feeling. I found it really inspiring and it gave me a sense of hope for my own future, even though the book does not have the fairytale ending. Martina has given me the gift of being able smile again by teaching me to live in the moment. There is no tomorrow, today is the only reality.
Not easy reading...
...but a very good place to start for those trying to learn more about assisted reproduction. This book deals very well with the emotional effects of infertility, and especially the process of IVF. The author, an Irish journalist, opens up to an extent I found uncomfortable in her sad journey. Ultimately there is no fairytale ending, but a lesson in acceptance of the hand of fate.
