Customer Reviews:
Just what I wanted
Nice rules, well put together and full of illustrations to inspire your miniature paintwork. The step by step guide through the playing steps works well.
Contains starter army lists for Romans vs Carthaginians, and 100 years war. So you will need to purchase the armylist books.

Well worth the money though.
Excellent - highly recommended
These rules are excellent. A good combination of a well thought out game mechanism developed by 'real' wargamers with Osprey's high production standard.

They are well laid out and easy to follow.

Highly recommended for any serious Ancient Wargamer.
Wargaming ancients in the 21st Century
At last, we can wave goodbye to all those poor quality wargames rulesets of previous years. Presentation and production of these it absolutely superb. The hardbinding, for longevity, was a nice touch too.

I was initially put off by the price but since the wargaming industry still insists on flogging cheap ringbound or stapled booklets for almost the same price as this, I soon realised an extra few pounds was well worth it.

The extra army lists book are also well researched and produced too.

An excellent gaming experience too. Basing is the same as the DBx element-based systems, no suprise as one of the DBM authors worked on this. Uses aspects of many previous rules but takes the best from each, and keeps the complexity to a minimum. The rules cleverly address several problems that have dogged wargaming since the very start.

Other companies would do well to take notes.

For those thinking of purchasing DBMM (the direct descendant of DBM, a superb game in itself) don't. I purchased and read through the DBMM rules "booklet" and almost laughed at the endless lists of cryptically worded modifiers.

The battle is joined between DBMM and FoG. It won't be a long fight. Not long at all.
