Worth the wait

Overall this is yet another good clear and concise account of a major WW2 battle by Ken Ford. However, the subject matter does mean that the whole thing can feel a bit anti-climatic in the end. To be fair to the author, he makes it clear that the Germans army had stood and fought on the west side of the Rhine and therefore was left with little to defend the river its self with. This naturally means that while there is an impressive display of Allied firepower, there isn't much here in the way of heavy fighting to give this book the grip that others have. Of course that is no fault of the author and this is a good addition to the overall Campaign series. I do hope that Ken Ford has a crack at the Scheldt battles of 1944 next as I'm sure that will provide some real meat for the series.
