If you have little girls-or boys-this book is fab, the basic design is so simple that the dolls are adaptable to any style or character you want, it can use up all the oddments of fabric in your 'ragbag' and bits of yarn left over from that jumper you did the other year...
Best of all they can become a family project where you can make accessories and clothes together and invent stories, names etc for your doll.
Simpel enough for anyone to make, even a beginner, clear instructions and materials readily available around the home.
Wide appeal factor too as I have 3 girls aged 10 months to 11 years and they work excellently for the older ones and I'm the littlest will get her own when she is big enough.
As always with Clair eGarland, clear instructions and beautiful design and layout.
If you want dolls exactly as she has designed in the book the kits are available online at dotpebbles but half the fun is ripping up your dad's old shirt and that horrible thing nan knitted for your birthday.

These dolls are great - there are 5 and each has their own personality but of course you can mix and match outfits between dolls... the only problem is once you start it's hard to stop so my advice is make them for someone else with a deadline like a birthday in mind. I've made one for a five year old (ballet-oriented), then her 10 year-old sister wanted one (she got a trendy wild red-hed) and now my sister wants one too but I'm all 'babed-out' for now... There are some great knitted babes blogs on-line too if you do a search and you can see what people in the US and France have done with their babes. Claire is an inspiring and highly original author - I can't wait for her next book DREAM TOYS which is out soon... it looks like a knitted Unicorn on the cover - how cool is that?

I bought this book for my 9year old daughter who has just learnt to knit and wanted to make something more than a scarf. She is now onto her second doll. They are so easy to do, lots of helpful hints and tips at the start to get you through tricky bits like increase and decrease. The outfits are gorgeous with lots of ideas to make them yours. They are not traditional dolls due to their long legs, but are going to be firm favoutires in my house!!

I love this book. The dolls are great for little ones if you leave off buttons and trims, but funky enought to appeal to older kids. The instructions are easy to follow and the babes that I have kint have worked out well. You can follow the instructions to the letter and copy the dolls as per the book or come up with your own variations. Claire Garland encourages you to experiment and try out different colour and yarn combinations. I have a doll with variagated purple hair and a matching dress as well as the ones in the book. An older child could, with some help make one of these themselves. They are easy to do and for the more experienced, you could night a doll in a couple of nights. Have fun with your beautiful babes.
