This is without question a book that I would hand to anyone who says that the subject of ancient history is boring. If it wasn't for the fact that the events surrounding the Fourth Crusade actually happened this sort of story would be a script writer or fiction novelists dream. I could not put this book down upon picking it up. The author particularly does well in bringing to the readers attention the possible motives as well as the reliability of those who were there at the time and that documented or chronicled the events of the Fourth Crusade. The author explains the very complex series of events and circumstances which brought about the Fourth Crusade and it's consequences in an intelligent yet crystal clear way. This is one of those books that I have put back in the bookcase to pickup again down the line to read again. Simply excellent.
