Fire Star - great disappointment

I was given this book as a present. I am glad I didn't spend any money on it. The ideas were interesting but the author fails to deliver a decent plot. The ending is awful - he resorts to telling instead of showing and it is incredibly anti-climatic. Not very well written, it read like a first draft that needed a lot of revision. I like dragons but was very disappointed in this book. I certainly wouldn't read anything else by the same author.

What kind of ending was that???
Everybody knows that most people HATES endings where the main character,especially if this character is good, dies.In this book,
David Rain, a kind, clever, and charismatic 20-year-old fella, gets
murdered by an ancient and evil transdimensional villain called the Fain.
He tries to stop the villain from destroying the world.
Despite all that, the first half of the book was extremely good.
You can't put the book down, unless you don't like dragons. I am
obsessed with them. But the ending covers it all.

Trying To Do Too Much

I did sort of enjoy reading this book. I can't say all of it made a great amount of sense and regardless of any other opinion I don't believe it has a satisfactory ending.
Icefire left us with a lot left to tell but at least the strands of that particular story were pretty much tied up. It appears that Chris D'Lacey changed his mind about exactly what story he wanted to tell about halfway through this book and instead decided to hash two (or more) together. As a result the stories (and the characters in them) never really got the attention (or completion) that they deserved.
If nothing else we are left with a lot of potential for the next book in the series. All he has to do is finish the stories he began in Firestar and that'll be a novel!

Complex more than confusing

Firestar is a complex story where you need to take in every hint D'Lacey gives you, particularly in the ending. Erica and Lucy just overlooked a crucial part in the story. To Erica and Lisa, try rereading the part you didn't like and anyone who read the book knows what part I'm talking about. In short, to people who have read the book or people who haven't, READ BETWEEN THE LINES!

This book just puts a spell on you, but while your reading there are many very important things that slip right under your nose. I know that many people don't like the ending, but that is just a spot where you have to keep an eye out. If you don't, you may end up with a whole different perception of the book.
