Not too bad but could be better

The book is a good read, helpful and very honest. Michelle is a normal 00's girl with food/weight issues like a lot of us, however, I found the book a bit vague, and it ended a bit too soon....i.e, cut short.
It would have been a lot better if it was written with a bit more thought and make some impact but it was like reading instructions on a microwave meal (excuse the pun). You could pick this book up and start at any point through it and not miss much.
A great girl and Gillian's advice makes sense, but it's a shame the context of the book has let them down.

At last - a TRUE accomplishment

Thank heavens for Michelle McManus!Not only is she a genuine person with weight issues and hurdles that she had to overcome, thus giving other real women with real weight issues the incentive and motivation to walk tall and proud, Michelle candidly shows us that weight loss and good nutrition isn't always easy, but is essential, can be fun, makes you feel fantastic and, once you've relearned and reprogrammed yourself to make the right choices, her story bestows a great sense of achievement and satisfaction within the reader. She shows us that we all have what it takes to take-on and beat the battle of the bulge.

This is an excellent story of partial triumph over adversity. Everyone knows that Michelle was the big fat one from Pop Idol and that she was as unlikely a winner as Norton's Coin in the 1990 Gold Cup. What we learn here from Michelle is the behind the scenes stuff: the tears behind the laughter; the very real health problems; the gas and bad feet; the shock of seeing those bikini shots in Heat. With the support of her family and the pointed hectoring of Gillian McKeith, Michelle moved from pizzas to birdseed and shed piles of fat. The before and after photos are more than enough proof of how well it has worked - she's easily down to an 18 now and feels there's more to come. Keep it going, hen! I met Michelle a couple of years ago in a Garthamlock working men's club and still have the bus pass she signed for me. She's a lovely girl and God bless her.

After watching the episode of 'You are what you eat' with Michelle McManus I was delighted when I heard this book had been written. I really admire Michelle for having the courage and willpower to go through with this and to do so well. The book is enjoyable to read and Michelle's personality really comes through, some of the diary entries really made me laugh. I would say to anyone who is struggling to follow a healthy eating plan or diet of any kind to read this book for some inspiration. Having lost over 8 stone, Michelle shows us that, with a bit of determination, it really can be done. The before and after pictures in the book are also amazing.

I've just read this book and I must say it's one of the most honest and "real" books on losing weight. The way Michelle has taken us through her bad days and her thoughts on the "New Foods" is so down to earth and real. It's what we want to hear as we all know it's not all plain sailing. 99.9% of diet books just tell us how and what to eat, all very well, but it doesn't give us encouragement or let us know what to do when we're having a weak day. I valued Michelles thoughts about these weak days and how she praised herself for when she stuck to it. I especially enjoyed it when she explained how she felt when she ate "bad" food after being on the plan for a few months. Now if Michelle can do and say this after being a self-confessed junkie then she deserves a medal. If she can do it, anyone can. And I don't think she's sold out losing weight. She's just being sensible and looking after her health. Well done...
