Customer Reviews:
Stop looking forward to 12th book, RJ died 09/07..RIP!
Sad news from the world of fantasy literature. Robert Jordan, known best as the author of the "Wheel of Time" series of books, died on the afternoon of Sunday September 16th after more than a year battling cardiac amyloidosis. The news comes from a message left on the author's blog.

And with his death he leaves the series' twelfth book unfinished and his story painfully incomplete!
A return to(wards) form
Jordan needs to learn from the likes of GRR Martin, Raymond E Feist and David Gemmell.

You drive the story forward with your main characters. Introduce side characters then, if they aren't part of the central story, *come back to them in later books that only deal with those characters*. You don't have to go through everything that happens in the world to know the story of the 3 boys, the 3 girls, the 3 main chosen and the heads of the 3 main "other" factions.

Give us a hoard of related books and mini stories *ONCE YOU'VE FINISHED THE MAIN STORY*. Please, we just want to get through the main story now. You're losing us!

Right. Rant over. Like the review title says, this book is a turn around from how bogged down in side story and back filling of the previous 2 books R Jordan has been. It's not quite back to the form of "The Great Hunt" or "The Eye of the World" yet but he looks to be back on track.

If you've never read Robert Jordans' "The Wheel of Time". Don't buy this book. Start from the start.
If you gave up after Knife of Dreams or Winters Heart, then hold out hope. They are worth it to get here.

Now... when's the next one coming?...
The 1st WHEEL OF TIME book i've read and its fascinating
Wasn't too keen, but got "KNIFE OF DREAMS" from a Book Club recommendation and have been absolutely gripped with the storyline, and Tolkien-style maps and characters. Loved it.
The story is moving on
Prompted by the reviews of my fellow readers, I set out to re-read the whole Wheel of Time series (Including the prequel New Spring) before opening this 11th instalment. I think it is the best thing I could have done, because I thoroughly enjoyed the whole story and did not have to dwell on the history of various caracters.

This book does give the impression that the end is getting near and it will be fulfilling to read the conclusion of this epic. The best advice I can give to anyone intending to read Knife of Dreams: do yourself a huge favour and read (all!) the previous books. You will then get so much more satisfaction out of this one!
At last we're getting somewhere
I gave book 10 1 star. I approached this one with some trepidation, as I was anticipating more of the same dreariness, but lo and behold I found myself enjoying it and by the time I finished I breathed a great sigh of relief. It was MUCH better.

Reading some of the previous readers' reviews I'm getting the impression that RJ may be thinking of extending the series to more than 12 books. Oh I hope not. Please, please, please let the next be the last so we can all move on and get a life.
