Five stars because it gives continuity to the saga...
|
How the author resisted the temptation of placing Alexander Kirk (sorry FANCY Jack Crossman) on a horse and send it charging with either the Heavy or the Light Brigades is possibly the best decision he ever did...
A sort of "filler" in the five books saga dedicated to THE CRIMEA... but it establishes firmly the character and also the rest of sidekicks and secondary characters...
Unavoidable read even if the third and fourth volumes are superior to it and probably the high water mark of the saga...
Well done!

A review of 'The Valley of Death'
|
I enjoyed this book thoroughly - I think it's a good sequel. It's not as gripping as a sharpe, and I still think that the characters need to develop a bit more. I also thought the title inappropriate - the light Brigade doesn't feature for very long at all - and Fancy Jack doesn't even take part! (had it been a sharpe I'm sure B. Cornwall would have found a way to include sharpe in the charge..) However, despite what I've said it does keep you waiting to read the 3rd and I would reccommend this book to my mates and to my family. I hope that this review has helped you make a decision...
