Customer Reviews:
One of the best
one of the best from the gamebooks collection. I recommend deeply everybody to read it.
Hard but brilliant
Cool book. Your mission is to escape from a house full of monsters and dangerous cultists after you're innocently lured in as a result of being stranded in a storm.

Quite hard too, when compared to some of the others. I'd say that it's for the more experienced player rather than a young one who's new.

I'd rate it as being in the best 10 of this series of books so far.
My favourite Fighting Fantasy book
I read all of the fighting fantasy books back in the 80's. I just stumbled across this book again recently and remember it vividly as being my favourite out of all of them. This is one of the hardest to complete, but when I sussed out how to complete it, it was extremely satisfying. The best way I can think to describe it is that it always reminded me of the Eagles song Hotel California. Maybe that song influenced the tone and plot of this book? Either way this is in my opinion the best FF book, but I would advise newcomers to try one of the others first. This is for the more experienced player.
Escape to freedom...
House of Hell may be the only FF Book that takes place in present-day Earth. You arrive at a strange mansion in the middle of the night and meet the owner. Eventually, you come to realize something very wrong is happening inside the house, and YOU must put a stop to it.

The house is an intricate maze, and there are quite a few traps set for the reader. Many passages you take will eventually lead to doom. It's not clear what you must do, although I'm sure it's fairly obvious after a while, or how you should accomplish your goals.

You definitely need to map this game book out, and make extensive notes. I've spent many hours just toying with the book, looking for the main villain, trying to escape the house, and various other things.

It's really is quite good, and always keeps you guessing. In fact, it's possibly my favourite game book, but it's not suitable for everybody because it is very difficult to solve.

You start to feel a little paranoid after a while and become enveloped into the adventure...

Gripping
This book is great for those who like playing adventure games. It's just like playing a computer game but your own imagination can give much better graphics than any other computer.

This book is a lot of fun, although it can be annoying if there is a part you cannot do and have to keep repeating yourself. I would recommend this book to anyone, but especially those who read the series in the 80's!
