From one prison to another, poor guy! At least buying this book will pay for his care however having been to Thailand many times managed not to be greedy enough or stupid enough to smuggle drugs, all I can say is that it serves him right (not the mental illness part!). If you go to another country and break the law then you should be prepared to pay for it however it comes. I'm not sure law breakers should be allowed to make money for their crimes just because we enjoy hearing about them first hand! I still watch banged up abroud though! ; - )

Top class book

The damage done is an autobiography of Warren Fellows, and ordinary Barman in Austrailia until he makes a few mistakes and ends up as a drug trafficker in Thailand.
Now anyone who knows me will know i don't read many books infact i haven't read a full book in about 6 years but i read all but 1 chapter of this yesterday in one sitting and the last chapter i just finished now.
This book is horrific and moving all the way through prison, parts of the book are so shocking i don't think anyone could imagine and other parts so moving they bring a tear to the eye. I warn those with weak stomachs some parts of the book are more disgusting than you'd see in a Saw movie.
Whilst being a drug trafficker he befriends Paul Haywards, a professional Boxer turned professional Footballer in Austrailia and Paul to get's involved.
Eventually in 1978 they get caught in Thailand and arrested. Paul and Warren are then tortured for answers they'd wouldn't give and eventually sent to prison. They ended up in four Thai prisons Maha Chai, Bumbud, Lard Yao and the most feared prison in the world Bang Kwang.
Warren remainded in Prison for 11 and half years before finally being granted a King's Pardon, whilst in prison he spent the majority of the years with Paul until when they were in Bang Kwang Paul was transferred back to Lard Yao.
Whether you agree/approve of drug trafficking or not (to which i don't) the horrors told in this book are beyond belief and the ways in which they were tortured is well more severe than any crime they ever committed and the treatment far worse than they derserved.
Warren was punished for his crime and them some (lots) more to a point where i'm surprised he is still alive today he must have a lot of will to survive what he did for so long and lived to tell the tale.
This is book is certainly a must read.

The Damage Done
|
I have read `The damage Done' a while ago and now have gotten around to write a review for this book
First and fore most Warren Fellows is an International drug smuggler, he made a conscious choice to take this career path. In his own words he says
"I'd had so many chances to avoid this fate and I had let them all slip away".
Fellows had never been caught before, as a result of his previous good fortune he started to believe his own hype. Fellows thought that he we untouchable, he became arrogant and complacent. Before he left for that fateful trip to Thailand there were many warning signs that he failed to heed to, he only has himself to blame for the 12 years that he spent in Bang kwang jail. It is the law of averages you will get caught one day.
This book just grips you in from the first page to the last. After reading this book I did feel sorry for Fellows, the mental, emotional and spiritual torture that he had to endure was immense. There are so many sad instances in the book that brought tears to my eyes. The one's that stands out for me was Paul Hayward, Fellows partner in crime. While in jail in he caught HIV and tuberculosis and later died of a heroine over dose when he was released. The Italian who died in jail and had no friends and family was buried in unholy ground.
I read this book within 3 days and it is I highly recommended. After reading this book it made me realise that life is not a dress rehearsal, you only have one life. Think carefully about what you do because there are consequences to your action.

The conditions prisoners live in are unbelievable, and its shiocking that any actually survive! Warren Fellows description is so in-depth, you feel like your their with him, which is a disturbing thought!! BUY THIS BOOK!!!! It will scare the hell out of you and you'll think twice about ever breaking the law in Thailand.
