Customer Reviews:
Quite lovely
I am impressed with the story; having read both volumes one and two (and being an absolute Jareth-maniac) I can safely say that I'm captivated. It is really quite a good plot, I like it being Toby-centric, it makes a change since I've read countless J/S fanfictions (and written one for that matter), plus the new characters are inventive and well-developed.
I have a few qualms with the art however. The cover art is deceptively beautiful; inside it is still very well drawn but not as detailed or manga-like as I had hoped. You can tell this is American produced, the art does look more comic-book than manga, but that is understandable. Having said this, although they do stick to Jareth's character quite well, its really bugging me that he is seen almost constantly without gloves. I know that's quite sad, but he wears gloves in every scene in the film and I was a little disappointed to see that quirk omitted. Plus both his eyes look the same in this, which also annoyed me slightly as Bowie's eyes were a very recognisable character trait.

However, I still very much enjoyed reading both volumes (OMG at the cliffhanger in book 2!!) and really can't wait to read the third. Roll on November! If you are a Labyrinth fan, this is without doubt worth a read. The story and characters are stunning and its very gripping and funny. The clever wordplay is one of the best elements as it is close to the feeling of the film. All in all, pretty damn good!
Avoid if fan or otherwise
I bought this because I enjoy the film. And even though I can see past the shoddy illustrations in terms of character rendering and the drawing of motion/action which was amateur at best; I could not reconcile myself with the lazy, sparse (even for manga) story. The new characters were poorly fleshed out and so to were the old.

Dialogue was short and had a used feel with characters repeating the same old lines from the film in differing contexts. I presume this was done to contact it with the film to please fans but it has the effect of exhausting the narrative as nothing new is added; which is surely the point of the book to begin with. So the book has failed.

Not half as good as the film
Firstly, this is a very short book. It won't last you long, and you won't necessarily get a lot out of it. Whilst the story is captivating, the plot lines is sometimes rather silly (even for a fantasy book), although I accept that these may be explained in the further 2 planned books.

As mentioned before, the artwork is NOT amazing, but what no one else has mentioned is the fact that some of the English in this book is rather poor, and some of the dialog sounds as if a 5 year old has written it.

Also, there were many times in this book when entire sentences would be concatonated togethor without spaces - making for hard reading.

I would NOT reccomened this book to just anyone - Only to those who truly love the Labyringth mythology and are eager for more.

worth a look
I was so excited when I found this book as it's the sequel to the film but when I received it I was disappointed to find that it's more a comic book than a book there are just comic style pics with little speech bubbles instead of wording like in a regular book. However after purchasing the book I decided to give it a quick read and found it was still very easy to get in to and enjoyed the change of style. I'm excited to the next book in the series defo buy it if u r a fan of the film
Meh...
When spotting this a few weeks ago I could not wait to get my order in. However unfortunatley I think I spent too much time reading online reviews as I ended up being quite disapointed. This Manga is in my opinion ok at best, it has less then average artwork and the story frankly didn't captivate me. If you like the film then I would recommend the manga but don't read reviews and then expect great things. If I had kept away from them I would have probably been happier with it, but it just didn't live upto what a lot of people said about it.
Hopefully it will get better in volumes to come but I won't be getting my hopes up. If you didn't watch the film then I doubt you'll enjoy this much.
