Deeper and Darker
Let's face it, the title is somewhat cheesy and that first made me wary of buying this book. true the first two books are light enjoyable reads, without being demanding and holding the reader's interest all the way through. but as i have been following the story, buying up to book number five to date (i will be buying the rest, count on that!), i have found that the series has been getting gradually darker, deeper and a whole lot more interesting. there are also some laugh out loud moments, and some deep philosophical questions lurking within this deceptive little book. and the art is very nice. highly recconmended, but be warned, some of the pictures have a lot of blood and gore, so bear that in mind why buying.

Journey to the mysterious pet shop of horrors, and buy your

An excellent, if slightly unusual title, Pet shop of horrors, follows the story of the enigmatic, cross dressing, Count D and average-american-cop leon. At D's Pet shop, people buy not only exotic pets, but dreams, hopes and desires. The stories range from creepy to really funny, and usually end in a nice little ironic twist, in which the buyer usually ends up with exactlly what they deserve... I've heard this series often compared to the twilight zone, so if ya like that, or are just looking for something a little different, I recomend this book.

STORIES ABOUT ANIMALS, BUT REFLECTIONS OF HUMANITIES.
The series of Petshop of Horrors is my favourite manga, because it is not simply a normal story; it can get you to think straight towards your spirit. It is worth having if you want to take another point view to see the human world, and yourself. I owned the full Chinese version of this series nearly three years ago when it was hugely successful among Chinese manga fans. And now I still love reading one of the ten books when I want to kill some time at night. This series is a collection of short stories happening around Duke D, who opens a petshop in Chinatown, a city in USA. Every story is entitled with a word starting with "D", for example, "Depression", "Dark", "Dear"... This is also one of the attractive side of the series. Each story possesses their own values and inner meaning with a mysterious atmosphere. Some animals in the story are based on ancient mythology, and some purely from the author's imagination. There is "fish" in the computer loved by a man; there is a lion-like animal which likes to cook human into strange dishes; there is a sort of bird which has the most beautiful voice, and sing till death as long as the master wants him to. From these animals, and the stories they bring out, you can then see many perspectives of humanities. You could realise something that you might have lost long time ago. The comic between Duke D and the cop has surely adds some light atmosphere into the book, and make it enjoyable. Duke D loves to wear gorgeous Chinese clothes, and this reflects the author's great skills in drawing. Overall, this is a worth-buying book, though I feel sorry that only the first book has been published in UK. I look forward to the day when people in UK can find the whole series, and be moved from the beginnning to the ending as I did. You will get to love every character here. You will get to fall in love with Petshop of Horrors. I STRONGLY recommend Pet Shop of Horros to anyone - - - no matter if you only wang to enjoy yourself, or you would like to get something out of manga.
