CB Delight!
Just like the earlier manga's out there of CB this has a bunch of stories of the gang in various tales of bounty head take downs and borderline poverty. Action, comedy, style and all with that essential CB delight, a must for fans and a good jumping on point for non CH heads alike.

Excellent variations on a winning theme!

Cowboy Bebop: Shooting Star follows the same formula as the excellent manga books that are also on offer, with a series of varied tales of the crew. However, Shooting Star is something different than you may be expecting. True, Spike, Jet, Faye, Ed and Ein are all here along with the Bebop and other ships, but this is the CB world as seen from the perspective of Kuga Cain. Don't worry that this is someone messing with the best bunch of characters to hit the Manga world, Cain was the original choice to pen the Bebopers, and while the particularly angular style of Spike is different it is evident that the cool brand of comedy and action is still intact. While I would like to see a continuation of the original books I was not in the least disappointed when I read this book and I look forward to the next installment!

Nicely different view of the Bebop
While this is a slightly alternate view of the Cowboy Bebop universe, as portrayed by Kuga Cain, it does hold onto the excellent mix of comedy and action that makes Bebop by far the best anime. The characters are all present and correct, with new introductions to the likes of Faye, Ed and Ein. Other than the different origins the main difference is the use of an angular style of drawing Spike and co that will grab the readers attention. Like the other Bebop books out there this comprises a number of stories of the crews exploites, and only really brings in Faye towards the end of the book. This is only part one of a two part series and the second volume is nicely set up with the Bebopers against a lethal adversary more dangerous and capable than the excellent Vicious - who is noticeable by his absence. If you like the other books and are suffering withdraw get this interesting fix of all things Cowboy Bebop!

A different approach to the Bebop.
When the people resposible for Cowboy Bebop were getting their ideas together they originally wanted to use Cain Kuga to create it. For whatever reason Cain was not able to do this. However, while Cowboy Bebop is now totally established on TV, the cinema and in print too, Shooting Star offers a unique alternate view of the Bebop universe. In volume one the crew is brought together, with the first story being a bounty chase for Spike and Jet. I won't go into the stories in the book, as you should read them for yourself. Ed appears in the second story and Ein in the third. Faye is the last to appear, in story five. These stories are all well written and drawn with a distinctive style. I like this Bebop book, while the appearances of characters I know only too well is altered they are still Spike, Jet, Faye, Ed and Ein. And the stories themselves are well done, with the same energy and off beat excitement that you have come to expect. I know Spike doesn't look like Spike, but don't be put off by the angular art, this is Cowboy Bebop! Enjoy.
