Sorry excuse for a book

What can I say? A thousand ways to make your computer say "Hello World" and do a little counting on a web page! Nothing in this book that I couldn't have done in seconds with a little Java scripting. A complete waste of money.

This is the PERFECT book to start python programming. It assumes no previous programming knowledge but still manages not to patronize or over-simplify.
The book covers all of the basics of python programming first and then has several chapters, each covering one advanced topic, such as GUI building, graphical report generation, web programming, etc.
Also has plenty of references to Monty Python =)
Highly recommended.

Beginning Python - great for Python newbies and above
|
Initially I recommended Beginning Python to a colleague who was just starting out with Python programming (he'd been coding for 10 years with various Basics before).
Since he bought it, I've found on a few occasions that I refer to it too...but it is tricky getting it off of him as he hates to lose sight of it! I've been Python-coding for almost 5 years (and have a set of reference books) and coding in C++ before for 10 years - yet still this book is useful to me and a beginner alike.
I strongly recommend this if you're starting out or looking to improve your Python coding. The style is clear, the material accurate, the worked-examples show you how to solve real world problems and there's plenty of discussion on why you should and shouldn't do things.
In short - I think you'd benefit from this book if you need to learn about Python.
