After the focus of the previous four series of sourcebooks (magic, mundane locations, Exalted types, and magical locations), we come to the fifth series; the esoteric scrolls. Basically this is a grab-bag of all the rest of the stuff in Exalted 2E that doesn't fit neatly into the first four categories.
Scroll of the Monk is a pretty comprehensive rundown of the various martial arts styles available to Exalted players and adversaries. The structure of the martial arts world as well as organisations such as the Immaculate Order are pretty briefly covered, but the real meat of the book are the styles themselves.
There are a selection of styles ranging from the lowest-powered Terrestrial techniques, through the Celestial styles more reminiscent of Kung Fu Hustle than Enter the Dragon. Additional techniques for the styles already presented in the core book and Dragonblooded are also included.
However, this is worth getting solely for the chapter on Sidereal martial arts, whose techniques are more about twisting reality than breaking bones. The sheer coolness factor of these left me salivating waiting for the eventual release of a Sidereal sourcebook.
As with all the Exalted sourcebooks, whether you need this book depends entirely on the style of your campaign. If you're not bothered about having a huge range of your techniques in your game, then you're probably as well off just using the ones in the core book and maybe the Storytellers' companion.
