Shocking Errata and unclear
|
After downloading the errata (unacceptable for a 4th edition) and going through certain vague, incorrect and ambiguous chapters in the book several times, I have concluded that this is the worst cisco press book I have ever come across (and I have read dozens). I hardly ever leave reviews but this book is so exceptionally bad, I feel I have to on this occasion.
The author is unclear, all over the place and has no idea how to write technical documentation. I kept having to go to www.cisco.com to clarify, not what the book didn't contain, but rather a proper explaination following a logical order.
They say technical books should be written by experts and read by dummies. Well, on this occasion I feel the dummy has written the book.

Not bad

This book isn't too bad. A little dry (I like some entertainment or sarcasim in my books!). This book didn't seem to contain everything needed, but I couldn't have got through this exam without the book and that's what it's all about.

Poor. Not up to Ciso Press' usual standards
|
I've read several Cisco Press books over the years and they do tend to vary in style and quality. Unfortunately this is one of the worst I've come across and I doubt that this book alone will help me to pass the exam.
The authors have a hard time explaining some of the topics, leaving out key details and then referring to them as though they have already been covered. Occasionally the text is confusing and in a couple of places there are contradictions or outright errors.
Worst of all, the included Exam Simulator on the CD was hard to install, insisting on registration that kept stating my valid copy was somehow invalid. It also has some obvious errors, for example identical answers listed twice in multiple choice questions - one is right and the other is wrong!
Hopefully a future release will fix these problems, as it stands I can't recommend this book to anyone.
