Good for initial prep

This book is good for initial prep and learning the theory.
For the exam you really need practice so either get real Cisco hardware lab or use boson simulator or something similar. I used simulator and passed the exam. I found the big problem with the exam is speed, you get just over 60 minutes for 44 questions including simulations so you need to be quick with subnettings etc

Excellent book both in content and writing style.

This book does exactly what you would expect.... GET YOU THE KNOWLEDGE TO PASS THE CISCO INTRO exam. I've read the Sybex book and failed the CCNA exam due to it not being complete. If you can really dedicate the time to studying at the same time every day or week and stay focused on your goal of passing the exam you will pass. The chapters use some good analogies and are well structured (e.g. short and concise, easy to digest) and the Q&A sections highlight if you are weak in a particular section and need to concentrate on it more. I was originally going to award this book 4 but changed it to five as the only thing wrong with this book was the very seldom spelling mistake, (maybe the English/American translation?). You will not get a better self study guide than Cisco Press material. I know as I now have a few different ones that claim to be the best and Cisco is the clear winner.

This book alone will not get you through the exam!

The contents of this book are designed for one pupose only, to prepare you for the Cisco 640-821 INTRO exam. For this reason it scores only one star. It would make sense that Cisco would tailor their exam to cover the topics discussed in the their book, sadly they don't. On all simulation exams I have scored 100% (using this book as reference only), on the actual exam I scored 73% (failure). This book is useful, but not for the purpose for which it was designed. Use more reference material! And good luck.
