Customer Reviews:
Luckily this book is being deprecated
This book is basically useless.

It provides an expanded view of the CCIE R&S blueprint, and actually summarizes some of the subjects quite well.

As such it should provide a good starting point for candidates pursuing the CCIE R&S Qualification for the first time, and a good reference for CCIEs looking for a quick brush up prior to recertification.

Unfortunately it is filled with errors, doesn't go anywhere near the skill level required at the exam, and the CD turns out to be completely useless, as the questions fall terribly short of the actual exam.

Luckily this book is being deprecated is by the new exam.
Let's just hope they don't do an update.

An Expanded R&S Blueprint
The CCIE written is no easy matter and no single book can adequately prepare you to pass this. In this light, it is unfair to expect this book to be a magic bullet that will enable you to pass the written.

This is a decent attempt to "flesh out" the blueprint you can find on CCO and to provide some indication of what will be covered on the exam. Reading through the chapters should illustrate to any prospective candidate where his/her strengths and weaknesses are and the author provides links and references to CCO and RFC's to enable the candidate to address these weaknesses.

All that said, the sections on the newer elements introduced into the written are the weakest sections in the book and additional reading is definitely recommended. However, any candidate who has already obtained CCIP with MPLS should have more than sufficient knowledge in most of these subjects.

In summary, a more detailed version of the R&S Blueprint that can aid in focused preparation for the CCIE written when used in conjunction with other books and documents.

This book was of no use for the CCIE written examination
I purchased this book expecting a full and concise guide to the R&S written examination. After reading the book from cover to cover and scoring 99% on the practice examinations and study guides, I took the examination to discover that the book is woefully inadequate and doesn't cover very important aspects to any depth. The sections on security, MPLS, voice, do not cover the aspects required in the examination. The book makes constant references to other books and RFC's along with the Cisco website rather than covering the sections. I suggest that you look up the RFC's and use the Cisco documentation CD for information as well as having experience on FDDI, Token Ring, and MPLS environments rather than purchase this book. A very disappointing purchase ONE TO AVOID!
