very topical

Very well written and hugely topical to say the least. Authors are experienced China watchers and have written many books on China. This book is worth reading. But note that for many issues, this book is not deep or insightful enough. One example is the Chinese bureaucracy, which remains a key problem for China. Another is the impact of foreign business on the Chinese government. For more insightful discussions on China, I recommend another book written by a Chinese commentator George Zhibin Gu: China's Global Reach: Markets, Multinationals, and Globalization, which is more penetrating on the issues.
