This is a superb insight into John Gierach's fly box and philosophy behind his fly tying. The way it is written is fantastic but if you are expecting a straight forward pattern book then don't look at this one. This book is flies for hatches that Gierach fishes in the US and some stories to go along with each. If you are looking for a pattern book then look at some of A.K. Best's books as there are several references to AK and his flies in this book. It is heavily biased towards mayfly hatches (as most of these types of books are) but is well set out and a joy to read. The fly sketches are good and the tips on materials are excellent.
