I realise that a dictionary this size can't contain many words, but I found it frustrating that so many words that I encountered even in Dutch texts weren't listed. You might as well use the vocabulary list at the back of the Berlitz phrase book for common words, and then buy a full-sized dictionary for reading books and magazines. I would buy the Cassell's one, but I refuse to pay £70 for it.

What a disappointment!
|
Langenscheidt usually produce excellent dictionaries in languages as varied as German, French, Chinese and Turkish. They have just published this new Dutch dictionary and I have been anxiously waiting for it since last year. But, what a disappointment! It's not even large enough to be called a "pocket" dictionary. It's a matchbox dictionary. It's smaller than the average tourist phrase book and at £10.57 (incl VAT and postage) it's a total ripoff. If this is the best that Langensheidt can do then their standards have declined dramatically and I would not recommend it to anyone.
