This is a truly wonderful book. It has made me laugh so many times in the years that I have owned it. It is the story of Sheila Levine, a Jewish girl living in Manhattan, and her search for Mr. Right, and her struggles with her weight. The two things are linked in Sheila's mind, therefore, if she is thin, she will find Mr. Right, and live happily ever after. However, this proves to be easier said than done. It doesn't help that her mother and sister are both thin, and her best friend goes from being a plain Jane, to a model! Sheila is a true heroine for all larger ladies, and I totally empathise with her battles, both for love, and for perfection. This is, although comic, a sad reflection on the way we view ourselves, and on the lengths we will go to in our search for what we see as the ideal shape. I love this book, I think Gail Parent has written a truly funny, and yet moving story, and I would whole-heartedly recommend it to everyone.
