This excellent book presents, in a clear and well organized way, the world of Game Development. As a programmer keen on developing games but unsure about the risks, I found in this book invaluable answers to my questions. In particular, many possible pitfalls are examined and warned against and numerous aspects of the running of a game development company are discussed in depth: publishing and distribution, startups, project financing, marketing and PR, team and game project management, online and wireless publishing, etc. The numerous case studies explain real-world examples of success or failure and add to the quality of the book. The authors are very knowledgeable about the Game Industry and they speak from different points of views: some of them are developers, some others are publishers or producers. Only fault: some paragraphs are targeted at a North American audience, and it is left unsure whether they apply to other regions or not. However, most discussions have global validity.Secrets of the Game Business is an excellent reading that I strongly recommend to outsiders to gain insight into the Games World and to experts as a source of useful tips about the mistakes to avoid.
