A word of warning ... and a word of encouragement. This is an encyclopaedic study of markets and resources in the USA and Canada. It does not direct its gaze at the UK, other than incidentally. Do not let this discourage you. You should look at the "Children's Writers' & Artists' Yearbook 2005" with a forward by Michael Morpurgo for an in-depth look at UK markets. But don't discount Alice Pope's contribution. The "Children's Writer's and Illustrator's Market" offers a wealth of advice which you may still find very useful. And it addresses US markets which may very well welcome your perspective! I've used the "Writer's Market", the adult version of this tome, and have sold many stories and articles to US markets. Why don't you do the same with children's markets? This is a book worth studying. Even if you do not submit to a US editor, this book is instructive in the art of marketing. Look at what is on offer here and consider how it can help you target your work better - writing these days is as much about marketing as it is about story telling. There is a vast resource of markets and ideas in this book: beyond the market listings, there are numerous articles and analyses which will help you improve your writing and marketing skills, whether you target UK or US editors ... or both. This is a book you should consider if you are serious about your writing. It is stimulating. It is motivating. It is worth the investment.
