Customer Reviews:
A must for any Ruger 10/22 owner or gunsmith.
For anyone who owns a Ruger 10/22 this book is a prerequisite. It is easy to read and is set out in short concise sections. These can be easy thumb marked to go back to later. It took me less than a day to read, reviewing sections later at my leisure for the tasks I wanted to attempt. However, the forward does state that the book is for academic study only, so consider this! Anyone attempting the more advanced projects stated in the book, will need specific skills and access to equipment. Nevertheless, there is a great deal for novice, enthusiast, and advance firearms users alike. Chapters covered are: Basic workings of the Ruger, working on barrels, disassembly, cleaning and re-assembly, action and trigger work, sights, after market stocks, suppressers, handling the 10/22 and ammunition. There is notable use of sequential photographs, with detailed notes explaining how to take down the 10/22. This is also the case for some advanced projects. Lots of useful advice, some which surprised me, but are in fact just common sense. The section on cleaning the 10/22 is a requirement for all users of this firearm and the objectives for this are established in the book. Very clear advice in all chapters of the manual helped me enormously, which covers every aspect of using and maintaining this firearm. If anything I wanted more of the same material, possibly to do with other after market products for the Ruger 10/22 or fitting these types of products. The manual is a short text, with 105 pages, but these are packed with relevant information to help any user of the 10/22. Don't get too upset that some aspects of the book are geared more to readers in America, as it covers specific laws that do not relate to the UK and stated suppliers are all based in the USA. However, anyone interested in the subject can easily get this information for the British market. Mark White has spent a great many years working on the Ruger 10/22 and his wealth of experience comes through in the book. I would have bought it just for the sections on disassembly, cleaning and re-assembly, the barrel: the heart of an accurate rifle, with the section on actions and trigger work thrown in. In fact, the manual is packed with much, much more. If you own a Ruger 10/22 or are interested in gunsmithing then think about buying this book, you will not be disappointed. In comparison to other books on specific firearms and gunsmithing, the manual is inexpensive. It will sit nicely alongside other books that are specific to the subject like, The Ruger 10/22 by William E Workman or other gunsmithing books such as, Modern Gunsmithing by Clyde Baker.
