Oh dear me.....

This is an example that buying a book without reading other reviews is NOT a good idea... because if I would have read the reviews, I would certainly NOT have purchased this book. This book advocates training methods that are now widely understood to be backward, unnecessary and even cruel and I will be putting my copy in the bin.

Proven Methods for professional fieldl\hunting dog
These are the same methods used by professional HUNTING DOG\FIELD DOG trainers throughout the world.
If you want a rock solid reliable off-leash dog or a serious hunting dog that listens to you no matter what kind of distractions you put in front of them this book is for you. If you and your dog spend more time on the couch and on the leash\yard\house\park this book isn't for you.
If you want your dog to actually live a life of off leash freedom, hunting and adventure(ya know the way dogs lived before we turned them into house\yard ornaments\fur children) this book IS for you and your 4 legged go anywhere without leashes life partner.
Anyone that thinks their dog would choose a treat over a lifetime of freedom, adventure and hunting is seriosuly dilluted.

Cruel training methods
If you love your retriever this book is not for you. The use of shock, pinch, and choke collars not to mention the ear pinch are all advocated here. The RSPCA is trying to ban these methods with good reason. How can giving a dog an electric shock make it enthusiastic? The methods suggested are 30 years out of date, gundog training need not be cruel in order to acheive good results, buy a different book.

do not buy this book
i cannot advocate the purchase of such a book, i have 3 retrievers and they need training so i buy a book that has promise, then i discover that 1 and a half pages of the first chapter are devoted to the praising of electric shock collars- currently the kennel club/dog press/animal charities are activley campaigning to get these banned then it gets worse, if that is possibe, by the suggestion that training can be improved with pinch collars. A book written in this centuary reflects out of date barbaric methods and should hold no place in the modern dog training world -do not buy this book.
