The best Sandman story
|
|
In recent years, Gaiman has been living off his past reputation. It's easy to forget that the first two years of Sandman were actually pretty good. Season of Mists sees Morpheus receive the keys to hell from a Lucifer bored with his job and the political wranglings between Sandman and the various pantheons. Kelley Jones' artwork is wonderful and the single issue by Matt Wagner about the dead detectives is very funny and well-observed. If Sandman the title had ended around #40, it would have preserved it as a brilliantly consistent run. Regardless of that, Season of Mists is exciting, entertaining and very good value. The redesigns of the hardcovers are also excellent, as McKean is a great designer. Worth getting in the hardback edition
